Music, art to highlight mediation center benefit
Kansas musician Ann Zimmerman and work by local visual artists will highlight an upcoming benefit event.
The Community Mediation Center, a program of the Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (KIPCOR) of Bethel College, will hold its second annual benefit concert and supper at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in Memorial Hall on the Bethel campus.
Senator Christine Downey will emcee. Ann Zimmerman of Salina, a singer and songwriter as well as an attorney and mediator, will perform.
New this year: a silent auction of pieces by local artists, including John Gaeddert, Ann Zerger, Clarence Niles and Ellen Groves. Some of the pieces will be on display in the KIPCOR office the week before the benefit (call for details).
The Community Mediation Center provides mediation services to help residents of Newton and the surrounding area resolve disputes. Organized in 1999, CMC contracts with the Harvey County District Court to handle domestic mediations, offering a panel of state-approved professional mediators to provide an alternative to other court action.
CMC also has Small Claims Mediation Projects in McPherson and Harvey Counties and anticipates developing an ElderCare Problem-Solving Project.
