Musical event is Sunday at Schaeffler House
Vocal groups and instrumentalists will usher in the holiday spirit on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 1, at "A Musical Christmas at the Schaeffler House."
Local musicians will perform traditional Christmas favorites and other seasonal selections between 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. as visitors tour the Schaeffler House, located at 312 E. Grand. Guests at the open house also can take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage or be chauffeured in a vintage car.
The public event will be the first held at the historic structure since it was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in May. William and Ida Schaeffler built the 12-room Victorian-style house in 1909. The Schaefflers were Lutheran immigrants from Germany who founded the Schaeffler Mercantile Co. in 1887 at Main Street and Grand Avenue in Hillsboro.
The Hillsboro museum board is sponsoring the annual open house. Refreshments will be served.
Advance tickets are $5 for the house tour and ride or $2 for the house tour only. Tickets will be available at the door for $6 and $3. Children under age 12 will be admitted free.
Advance tickets are available at Hillsboro State Bank, 200 N. Main.
