Netters win at Berean
The Goessel High School varsity volleyball team competed on Oct. 7 against Pretty Prairie and Berean Academy in Elbing.
Goessel won the first match against Pretty Prairie, 25-22, 25-9.
"We started off slow in the first game, but really found our rhythm the second game," head coach Sandy Banman said. "Felicia Goertzen really had a good passing game."
Alison Banman was the leading server, going 11 for 11 with four aces. Ashley Ensz had six kills and four blocks.
"Ashley had a good night at the net," Banman said.
In the match against Berean Academy, Goessel won 28-26, 29-27 in two close games.
"This was quite a match," Banman said. "I was very happy with how our girls played with poise."
"We were down at various times and were able to fight back and pull ahead," she said. "I feel like we gained a lot of confidence and experience in this match."
Brianna Unrau and Jessica Schroeder led in digs.
Goerzen lead in serving, making 10 of 10 and one ace.
"This was truly a team win," Banman said.
The team played Tuesday at Peabody with Berean.
The team's record is 5-8 and 11-15 overall.
