New chamber board members named

Staff writer

We are getting ready to start a new year, and we've elected four new chamber board members to start it off.

The new board members are Lily Arthur, Gordon Mohn, Randy Smith, and Lola Unruh.

The board members who will remain on the chamber board of directors are Todd Vogt, Cora Friesen, Krista Heinrich, Mike Gerken, Brenda Hamm, Eric Driggers, and David Baker.

The new board will meet for the first time in December and begin discussing 2007.

We would like input from all the chamber members, so be thinking of what you would like to see happen in the chamber.

If there is something you think is missing in the chamber, you have an idea for a benefit, an event, or an improvement, please let me or one of the board members know.

When we meet we also will be making plans for the chamber of commerce annual dinner. The dinner will be Feb. 19. We're having the dinner later to accommodate the speaker's schedule.

The 2007 annual dinner speaker will be former Tabor football coach and current K-State assistant football coach Tim McCarty.

We also will be announcing the winner of the chamber business of the year at the annual dinner, so if your business was nominated, you will want to be present.

The fair board voted last month to move the Marion County Fair to earlier in the year. The new dates will be July 25-28.

Participation in events for the Holly Days in Hillsboro holiday kick-off ranged from moderate to fabulous. The Schaeffler House and many downtown businesses said they had better than expected turnouts, however other businesses and events had limited success.

Organizers met following Holly Days and have agreed to move the event one weekend closer to Christmas. In 2007, Holly Days will be Dec. 1 and 2.

More than 80 people attended the quarterly chamber luncheon on Nov. 1, sponsored by Tabor College. The outstanding attendance, fabulous food, and a chance to meet new employees of Tabor led to a successful and enjoyable meeting.

Have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!
