New furniture store to open in November

A new furniture store is coming to town.

Starting in November, "Hillsboro Furniture" will start doing business in the same Main Street building previously occupied by Friesen Furniture Center.

The owner of the new store is John Hueninghake, who lives in Marysville. Hueninghake also owns furniture stores in Marysville and Concordia. He's been in the furniture business for 13 years, he said.

Hueninghake and some of his family members were in Hillsboro Wednesday to begin moving into their new facility. Hueninghake is leasing the building from Andy Friesen, not buying it, he said.

Hueninghake has been looking into moving a furniture store into the vacant Hillsboro building since this past summer, he said. He did his homework, checking into the Hillsboro economy.

He's received a warm reception from the Hillsboro people he's talked to.

"We're real excited about coming," Hueninghake said.

From now until November, Hueninghake will load his inventory into the building. The store will offer most types of furniture, from bedroom suites to sofas to dining room sets.

Hillsboro resident Brenda Coryea will be the store's manager. Hueninghake plans to spend Wednesdays in Hillsboro, he said.

Hueninghake has experience in selling furniture in a smaller market — his stores are usually in smaller towns with fewer than 5,000 people or county seats, he said.

Hueninghake and his wife, Ann, have three children: Ryan, a recent high school graduate, Tyler, a high school freshman, and Emily, a sixth-grader.
