New teachers at USD 410 begin school year years ago
Three new teachers, Collette Haslett, Danny Lundberg, and Jeff Haslett, began their careers with the Hillsboro school district Thursday when classes resumed after summer vacation.
Hoch Publishing Company asked the new teachers questions about their backgrounds and future plans. Here are their responses.
Collette Haslett
Haslett attended Colby Community College for two years and completed her bachelor of science degree at Fort Hays State University. She also holds a master's degree in administration from Emporia State University.
Prior to this year's assignment as fifth grade writing and language arts teacher, she taught sixth grade for four years at Hillsboro Middle School and third grade for four years at Argonia Elementary School.
She and husband Jeff, who is the new physical education and health teacher at Hillsboro High School, have a son, Zander, who is 17 months old.
The family resides in Hillsboro.
Haslett is looking forward to getting to know her students and staff at HES.
"I am positive we will have a rewarding and exciting school year," she said.
Danny Lundberg
A Walton resident, Lundberg has taught elementary physical education for three years prior to his tenure at HES.
He is a Cowley County Community College and Emporia State University graduate and will teach P.E. and is the head tennis coach and assistant boys' basketball coach at HHS.
Lundberg is looking forward to teaching and coaching in the Hillsboro school district.
He is single.
Jeff Haslett
Prior to coming to USD 410, Haslett taught physical education and health for seven years at Argonia High School.
Haslett is a Fort Hays State University graduate with a bachelor of arts degree and a master's degree from Emporia State University.
This year he will teach P.E. and driver's education at HHS and will coach middle school football and basketball.
Haslett is married to Collette Haslett, a fifth grade teacher at HES, and they have a son, Zander, who is 17 months old. The family resides in Hillsboro.
"I expect it to be a great school year," Haslett said, and is excited about working with the students of USD 410.
