Nickel, Slipke exchange vows

Phyllis Kay Nickel and Alan Wayne Slipke were married Feb. 22, 2003, at Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. Officiating the ceremony were James Schrag of Newton, uncle of the bride, and Fr. Kerry Ninemire of Salina, cousin of the groom.

Parents of the couple are William and Kala Nickel of Hillsboro and Edwin and Miriam Slipke of New Almelo.

Grandparents are Glen and Imo Klinkerman of McPherson, the late John and Cornelia Nickel, the late Joseph and Dolorose Schandler, and the late Raymond and Regina Slipke.

The bride, escorted by her father, wore an ivory matte satin gown with a halter neckline. The hand-beaded and embroidered lace highlighted the A-line gown and a cathedral train.

She carried a hand-tied bouquet with ivory roses, calla lilies, blue hydrangea, stephanotis and ivy.

Maid of honor was Carlene Nickel of Manhattan, sister of the bride.

Bridesmaid was Heidi Norton of Topeka.

They wore square neck princess seam A-line satin royal blue dresses with a satin shawl. They carried white calla lilies tied with ivory ribbon.

Best man was Max Lierz of Holton.

Groomsman was David Slipke of Bristol, Conn., brother of the groom.

Serving as candlelighter and guest book attendant was Darla Slipke of Bristol, Conn., niece and Goddaughter of the groom.

Scripture reader was Brian Nickel of Hays, brother of the bride.

Musicians were Allison, Ashley, Sheree, Brittany, Kerri, and Christy Peterson of Wichita, cousins of the bride, violinists. Connie Galle of Hillsboro was organist, and David Clark of Hillsboro was soloist.

Flower attendants were Ryan and Cheryl Goheen of Pratt, Crystal Slipke of Manhattan, Sarah Slipke of Downs, Darla Slipke of Bristol, Conn., Heather Baumberger of Manhattan. Kendra Baumberger of Salina, Rachel, Landon, and Raelynn Slipke, all of Lenora, Breanna and Easton Slipke of Hoxie, all nieces and nephews of the groom.

Also serving as flower attendants were Owen Sommerfield of Wichita, cousin of the bride, Andrea and Ashley Bartel of Hillsboro, Carrie, Alex, Tara, and Kate Lierz of Holton.

A reception was held at the Red Coach Inn in McPherson.

Reception servers were Linda Baumberger of Salina, sister of the groom, Valerie Schrag of Lawrence, cousin of the bride, and Melissa Claassen of Moses Lake, Wash., cousin of the bride.

Rachel Schrag Sommerfeld of Wichita, cousin of the bride, was in charge of reception photos.

Wedding coordinators were Stuart and Lynette Penner and Alvin and Arlene Hett, all of Hillsboro.

Norman Galle of Hillsboro served as videographer, and Galen Penner of Hillsboro was in charge of the sound system.

The bride is a 1994 Hillsboro High School graduate and a 1999 Fort Hays State University graduate.

She is employed as a merchandise planner for Payless ShoeSource, Inc.

The groom is a 1991 graduate of Lenora High School and a 1995 Fort Hays State University graduate.

He is employed as an information systems project manager for Payless ShoeSource, Inc.

After a honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the couple reside in Topeka.
