Nine students qualify for state forensics

Two qualify for state forensics festival

Hillsboro High School will be represented at the state forensics championship tournament by sending nine state qualifiers and two students to the state forensics festival on May 3 at East High School in Wichita.

According to the team sponsor Terry Bebermeyer, the state forensics championship tournament is a three preliminary round competition from which the judges narrow each event down to the best 12 for a semi final round. Then the judges narrow down the list to the tip six for a final round to determine the state 3A champion of each event.

Grant Anderson, Adrien Bebermeyer, Kelli Just, Allison Kunkel, and Derek Ulrich, are all returning state championship qualifiers from previous years.

Gina Andrews and Emily Railsback are both returning participants from the state festival last year and are now in the championship tournament, along with first-timers Dana Suderman and Emily Bebermeyer.

Adrien Bebermeyer has won the state 3A runner up champion in oral interpretation of prose, runner up champion in oral interpretation of poetry and sixth place in original oration.

Kunkel placed fourth of all Kansas 3A students in informative speaking last year and sixth in the previous year.

State qualifiers for the championship tournament and their event include: Anderson in dramatic solo acting and humorous solo acting; Andrews in oral interpretation of prose; Adrien Bebermeyer in original oration and oral interpretation of prose, Emily Bebermeyer in informative speaking; Just in oral interpretation of poetry; Kunkel in informative speaking and oral interpretation of prose; Railsback in original oration and informative speaking; Suderman in oral interpretation of poetry; and Ulrich in original oration.

Those qualifying for the state forensics festival are Robert Jost in oranl interpretaiton of prose and Thomas VanWart in oral interpretaiton of prose and poetry. At the state festival, they will perform their selections and receive a rating of I through IV.
