Tabor stays on top of KCAC, downing Spires, Friends
Lady Bluejays completed another perfect week, concluding Saturday with a 64-34 blowout of the St. Mary Lady Spires in Leavenworth.
The mauling of the Spires marks Tabor's 13th straight win as it moves to 11-1 in the KCAC, 18-4 overall, to stay a game ahead of second-place Sterling.
The Bluejays took over sole possession of first in the conference two days earlier in Wichita, beating the 18th-ranked Friends Falcons, 55-50.
In Saturday's action, the Bluejays, despite shooting 31 percent from the floor, were up 31-20 on the Spires.
Erica Hemmert had a game-high double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds with three offensively. Stacie Herman added 10 points.
The Bluejays outscored St. Mary 24-0 from behind the arc, hitting 8-of-20.
Using a 33-14 second half, Tabor pulled away from the Spires and cruised to an easy win, limiting St. Mary to a worthless 18 percent from the floor.
Tabor out-rebounded the Spires, 49-43, with Erin Raber and Nicole Ellis adding nine and eight, respectively.
The Bluejays also outdid the Spires in bench scoring, 27-9 with all of Tabor's players getting into the game.
Up next for the Bluejays is a visit tonight from the McPherson Lady Bulldogs at 6 p.m.
Tabor then travels Saturday to North Newton to meet the Bethel Lady Threshers at 5 p.m.
