Durham correspondent

Due to a short vacation the writer and her husband took last weekend, there was no news written for the paper. Sorry! It was hot and very dry in Colorado.

Late Sunday afternoon the Unruhs celebrated recent and up-coming birthdays at the home of Jim and Brenda Enns. The honored ones were David and Ashley Enns, Matthew Hiebert, and Darren Enns. Guests were Ron and Dora Unruh, Lon and Deb Hiebert, Mark and Barb Unruh, Katelin, and Sarah, Warren and Anita Unruh, Nathan, and Kyle, Lisa Enns, the honorees, and Chad Stutzman. They enjoyed a late afternoon barbecue and birthday cake and ice cream.

Harry and Verna Decker attended the Decker reunion at noon on Sunday at Moundridge.

Greg and Charlene Wedel were Tuesday supper guests of Wendell and Linda Wedel. They had just returned from visiting in the Livingston, Calif., area and other points of interest in California for 10 days.

Those that went to the wedding of Tim Koehn and Shelia Penner on Aug. 18 at Greenland, Manitoba, were his parents, Larry and Wanda Koehn and family, Travis and Sharon Koehn and family, and Dalton and Lorna Koehn. The young people who went were LaVae, Rhonda and Eileen Davis, Tammy Rhodes, Heidi Dirks, Katie and Susie Unruh, Ruthann Jantz, Monica Unruh, Jeff Ratzlaff, Marcel Unruh, Maryln Wiebe, Doug, Scot, and Mark Koehn. Before returning home on Wednesday, Larry and Wanda visited his sister and family, Jewel and Dennis Warkentin, at Cartwright, Manitoba.

The weekend of Aug. 12-14, the extended Koehn family of Betty Wiebe had a family reunion at Snow Mountain Ranch in Winter Park, Colo. There were about 90 family members in attendance. Those attending from this area were Clayton and Betty Wiebe, Nelson and Bev Wiebe and family, Calvin and Sharon Wiebe and family, and Travis and Sharon Koehn and family. They all had a wonderful time as a family, and the weather was great — nice and cool.

On Sunday, Ron and Margaret Jantz of Burns attended church services with Wendell and Linda Wedel and then took the Wedels and Greg and Charlene Wedel out for dinner at Pizza Hut.

On Aug. 18, Harry and Lela Wedel, Clara and Alma Toews of Hillsboro, and the Quinton Unruh family were dinner guests of Mitch and Carol Unruh.

On Sunday, the parents and families of the Cottonwood Grove Christian School students had a basket dinner at the school. This was to get acquainted with the teachers. The teachers in the lower grades are Starla Koehn of Fredonia; middle grades, Erica Schmidt of Montrose, Colo., and Sarah Schmidt of Fort Vermillion, Alberta, Canada. Sarah is not able to come for several weeks, and Carol (Mrs. Mitch) Unruh will substitute until then. School started on Monday.

On Aug. 18, Harry and Verna Decker attended the 65th anniversary celebration for Milford and Kathryn Blair.

On Friday evening, Ransom and Lillian Wiebe, the Merlin Wiebe family, and the Mark Wiebe children were guests of Jason and Sheri Wiebe to help Benji celebrate his fifth birthday. They all enjoyed birthday cake and ice cream together.

On Sunday, Ransom and Lillian Wiebe got Helen Wiebe from Moundridge Manor for the church services here. They then had dinner in Newton. They went back to the manor and visited Alice Unruh together with Helen.

Barb Unruh's nephew, Chad Stutzman of Filer, Idaho, came back to attend Tabor College and spent several days at the Unruh home before the dorms opened on Wednesday.
