Northwest of Durham: Dirks visit children in Russia

Bruce and Cheryl Dirks, Heath and Bethany went to Samara, Russia, Sept. 8 to visit their children LaVern and Lisa Litwiller and three children who are doing mission work there. They returned Sept. 26. The trip was very interesting to see and learn about the way of life there. The weather was fall and getting cooler. It was good to see the grandchildren as the youngest, now three, was only a few months old when they left.
Ron and Dora were guests Wednesday evening of their friends, Virginia Beemer and Andi Peterson from Grand Junction, Colo., for dinner at Brookville Hotel. It was a belated 50th anniversary dinner since they couldn't be here in June. Later they were overnight guests of the Unruhs. On Thursday they did a little sightseeing and all had breakfast at Main Street Café, then they went to Emporia and Topeka to see some friends.
Ransom and Lillian Wiebe went to Arthur, Ill., Thursday to conduct meetings each evening until Sunday evening. They left Monday and were supper guests of Justin and Rebecca Wiebe and family at Bloomfield, Iowa. They came home on Tuesday.
Wendell and Linda Wedel and Travis and Connie Becker of Halstead were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Greg and Charlene Wedel. Greg told of some of his experiences in Louisiana this past week in the clean-up of the hurricane.
Guests for supper in the Clayton Wiebe home Monday were Sharon Koehn and family, Calvin Wiebe and family, Wayne Wiebe family, and Nelson Wiebe family. The recent birthdays of Janene Wiebe, Jordan Wiebe, and Seth Koehn were honored.
Ransom and Lillian Wiebe invited Jason Wiebe family, Doyle Wiebe family, Richard and Charlotte Wiebe, Aryln and Maryl, and Henry Redger to be their Sunday dinner guests.
Dora Unruh had breakfast Saturday morning with her granddaughter, Lisa Enns of Manhattan who couldn't be here for our annual summer breakfast.
Wendell and Linda Wedel went to Fredonia Tuesday to the funeral of Linda's uncle, Eldon Nightingale.
Enjoying Sunday dinner in honor of Clayton and Betty Wiebe were Roy and Nadine Davis, Rhonda and Eileen, Mark and Kris Wiebe and family, Lisa Redger, and the three teachers.
This weekend the annual Rhodes family reunion was held Saturday evening with a supper at the Branton Place. Not very many attended as the weather didn't cooperate. They had a basket dinner Sunday at the Sugar Creek School near Galva and there was a better attendance.
The Bruce Dirks family, Russ and Lydia Dirks, and Melvin and Vera Dirks were Sunday dinner guests of Howard and Charlene Becker.
