Northwest of Durham: Guests attend memorial service

Julie Unruh of Haysville, N.C., Alicia and Ed Cannon of Auburn, Wash., and Dwight Unruh of Rockledge, Fla., were guests in the area from Wednesday to late Sunday afternoon. They were here for the memorial service for Arvid Unruh, which was held Friday at Trinity church, Hillsboro.
They and Ron and Dora Unruh were Wednesday evening supper guests of Jim and Brenda Enns.
On Saturday, the out-of-state visitors, Ron and Dora Unruh, Jim and Brenda Enns and Darren, Deb and Matthew Hiebert, Mark and Barb Unruh, Katelin and Sarah, Warren and Nathan Unruh, and Jerald and Kaylene Unruh went to Main Street Café for the traditional Unruh breakfast we had when the Arvid Unruh family would come to Kansas.
That evening, the out-of-state guests and the Ron Unruh family had a hamburger fry and homemade ice cream at the Lon and Deb Hiebert home near Walton. Julie, Dwight, Ed, and Alicia were Sunday dinner guests of the Ron Unruhs. They all flew back to North Carolina that afternoon.
John and Ethel Steiner and Randall, Tim Davis, Henry Redger, the Jason Wiebe family, Brian and Rebecca Thomas, and Duane and Louise Ratzlaff were Sunday dinner guests of Ransom and Lillian Wiebe.
Earl Decker of Newton and John Decker were May 28 dinner guests at the home of Gene Redger. John also was a guest on Monday.
After having Bible school for two weeks at Morning Star Church, the children presented a program Sunday evening. Refreshments were served.
The Dayton Unruh family got together Memorial Day evening for a picnic at the Brenton place.
The Joe and Mary Unruh family hosted the Isaac Dirks family reunion Sunday at Hillsboro Senior Center. The Larry Koehn family and Richard and Kathy Dirks attended.
Sharon Redger of Cimarron came to spend some time with her daughters, Kris Wiebe and family and Lisa Redger. The Mark Wiebe family and Sharon Redger were Sunday dinner guests of Lisa Redger.
Bruce and Cheryl Dirks spent the weekend in Murray, Ky., visiting with their children, LaVern and Lisa Litwiller and family. They have come to the states for three months on furlough. They are missionaries in Russia and will return for two more years.
Louis and Edith Warkentin of Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada, are spending a few days visiting with their daughter, Kara Wiebe and family. Additional Sunday dinner guests were Ken and Sandy Wiebe.
Rhonda and Eileen Davis left Friday to spend the weekend at Murray, Ky. They went to attend the wedding of Renita Goertzen to Noah Slabaugh. Rhonda taught school with Renita several years ago in Minnesota. They returned home Monday evening.
Wendell and Linda Wedel and Greg and Charlene Wedel and Cadon went to Fredonia Sunday for the wedding of Linda's nephew, Carlos Schultz to Alisha Koehn.
The area received up to four inches of rain with hail and wind on May 31.
