Northwest of Durham: Harvest nearly complete

Merle and Pam Hartman of Andover were recent breakfast guests of their parents Palmer and Lucille Base.

Guests for a Father's Day dinner in the Ron Unruh home were Wesley Unruh, Jim Enns and David, Mark and Barb Unruh and Katelin and Sarah, and Lon and Deb Hiebert and Matthew.

Harry and Verna Decker were Father's Day dinner guests of Gene and Jarine Redger at Newton for a hamburger fry. Later in the afternoon, they visited at the home of Earl and Sharon Decker.

On Father's Day, the Ransom Wiebe family enjoyed a picnic at the park in Lindsborg. Others attending were the Merlin Wiebe family, the Jason Wiebe family, the Mark Wiebe family and Kris' mother and sister Sharon and Lisa Redger from Cimarron.

Greg and Charlene Wedel hosted a dinner for their fathers on Father's Day. Guests were Wendell and Linda Wedel, Dale and Kathy Jantz and Ruthann, and Troy and Marla Wiebe and family.

The birthday of Maggie Thayer was celebrated on June 15 at the home of her parents Richard and Ruth. Guests invited for dinner included Palmer and Lucille Base, Pete Weibert, Todd and Paula Butterfield and family, Thad and Edna Thayer, Jamie and Samuel, Paula Thayer and Gordon and Doris Dalke and grandsons of Hillsboro.

Katelin Unruh spent a week at Camp Wood in Elmdale as a camper.

After spending nearly three years doing mission work in Russia, Clayton and Betty Wiebe returned to their farm home. Their children, as well as some other relatives, went to the airport to welcome them back. The church held a grocery shower for them. The community welcomes them back.

Recent dinner guests in the Ransom Wiebe home were Errol and Mae Wedel and Loretta Wiebe from Arizona. Mae is Betty Wiebe's sister.

Recent dinner guests of the Ken Wiebes were Doyle and Kara Wiebe and family and Helen Wiebe from the Moundridge Manor. Ransom and Lillian Wiebe, Clayton and Betty Wiebe, Richard and Charlotte Wiebe and boys, Loretta Wiebe, and Errol and Mae Wedel were evening guests.

Justin Wedel, son of Howard and Glenda (Rhodes) Wedel, and Lisa Jantz were married at the Gospel Mennonite Church in Moundridge. Going from here were Harry and Sheryle Rhodes, Darrel and Donita Rhodes and family, Calvin Wiebe and family, Darrin and Meri Kay Rhodes, Mike and Michelene Rhodes, the Ken Giesbrecht family, the Larry Koehn family and the Warren Unruh family.

Another harvest has been completed. The yields have varied from very low to average. It has been a long time that we have completed a harvest without a shower delaying things. Everyone is now experiencing a lot of bugs in the milo fields. The gardens are in need of a good rain as well as the crops.

Congratulations to Darrin and Meri Kay Rhodes on the arrival of a baby boy. Darcy Wade, weighing 6 pounds and 15 ounces, arrived early June 23 at Mercy Hospital in Moundridge. The local grandparents are Harry and Sheryle Rhodes, and great-grandparents are Harry and Lela Wedel.

On Saturday, the Howard Koehn family from Minnesota were supper and overnight guests in the home of Roy and Nadine Davis. An additional Sunday dinner guest was Lisa Redger from Cimarron who has been helping at the Ensz home near Hillsboro.

Visitors in the home of Bruce and Cheryl Dirks Sunday evening after church were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nichols, David and Elaine Steiner and Tara, John and Ethel Steiner and Randall, Gerald and Eva Davis, Troy and Marla Wiebe and family, and Melvin and Vera Dirks.

David and Elaine Steiner and Tara of California have been visiting their parents John and Ethel Steiner. Relatives and friends gathered June 23 at the Cottonwood Grove School for a basket dinner in their honor.

Ransom and Lillian Wiebe and Clayton and Betty Wiebe ate out to celebrate their recent wedding anniversaries.

Curt and Jeanne Stutzman from Broadway, Va., arrived at the home of Curt's sister, Barb Unruh, on Thursday morning. They spent until Saturday morning visiting the Mark Unruh family. They then went to Colorado Springs, Colo., to visit a nephew before going to see the Stutzman relatives at Twin Falls, Idaho.

A Jantz gathering with a basket dinner was held June 23 at the Durham Community Building. Those attending were the families of Amanda Wedel, Harvey and Madeline Jantz and Harry and Lela Wedel. The gathering was for Bob and Betty Jantz from California, their nephew, who was visiting in the area. Bob is also a brother of Dale Jantz. On Monday evening, Bob and Betty Jantz, Harry and Sheryle Rhodes, Harvey and Madeline Jantz, Dale Jantz, and Michelene Rhodes were supper guests in the home of Harry and Lela Wedel. Mike Rhodes was busy helping in the harvest, and Kathy Jantz had gone to California.

A group from the Morning Star Church went to Brown Memorial in Abilene Sunday evening to give a program.

Wednesday evening the Wendell Wedels, the Roy Davis family, and Charlene Wedel had a hamburger fry in the park to celebrate Amanda Wedel's birthday.

Sunday evening supper guests in the home of the Bruce Dirks were the Roy Davis family, Clayton and Betty Wiebe, and Duane and Louise Ratzlaff and family.

Dinner guests in the home of the Harry Rhodes were Darrin and Meri Kay Rhodes and Darcy, Mike and Michelene Rhodes, and Wayne and Loralee Wiebe.

Ken and Sandy Wiebe invited the Louis Rivera family and Wayne and Loralee Wiebe to be their Sunday supper guests.

Ransom and Lillian Wiebe attended worship services and a dinner at the Alexanderfield Church in Hillsboro. The Mark Wiebe family also came for the dinner. It was a farewell for Kris' sister, Lisa Redger, who has spent considerable time helping in the home of Glen and Bonnie Ensz due to Bonnie's illness.
