Northwest of Durham: Residents attend Moundridge picnic

A very welcome rain was received in this community late Saturday afternoon. It varied a lot with some reporting a little over three inches to less than an inch. It gives the farmers renewed spirits, and everyone will be extra busy preparing the soil for another wheat crop. The cooler weather is great too.
On Sept. 6 and 7, Ransom and Lillian Wiebe attended a church meeting at Versailles, Mo. They then went on to Bloomfield, Iowa, where they spent Sunday with their son and family, the Justin Wiebes. Other guests were Ron and Jenalee Becker and family.
Thursday evening, Palmer and Lucille Base visited Menno Dyck at the Abilene hospital.
The Wedel reunion was held Sunday at McPherson. Attending from this area were Roy and Nadine Davis and family, Wendell and Linda Wedel, Amanda Wedel, Harry and Sheryle Rhodes, Harry and Lela Wedel, and Art and Violet Wedel.
Helen Wiebe had surgery Friday at Newton Medical Center. The Wiebe family spent most of the day with her. The Ken Wiebes visited her again on Sunday.
Friday evening, the Moundridge Manor hosted a picnic supper for residents and their immediate families. Attending were Ransom and Lillian Wiebe, Clayton and Betty Wiebe, and Harry and Sheryle Rhodes who are on the board.
Sunday dinner guests of Ransom and Lillian Wiebe were Larry and Wanda Koehn, Denis, Titus, and Amy and the Mark Wiebe family.
Sunday afternoon, Palmer and Lucille Base visited Gladys Thiessen at their apartment in North Newton. In the evening, guests of the Bases were Geneva Pryce and Dwight Jantz.
On Wednesday, Ransom and Lillian Wiebe went to visit her dad, Claude Unruh, at Montezuma. Claude is not doing well.
Menno Dyck of Abilene passed away early Sunday morning. He was a former resident of this community. The community extends their sympathy to the family.
Marcella Unruh was a Sunday dinner guest of Bob and Priscilla Unruh. Other guests were Leland Kaiser, Josh Springer, their grandson, and Robyn Unruh of Lawrence, who spent the weekend with her parents.

The children of Marcella Unruh hosted an open house on Sunday afternoon at the Baptist Church in Durham for her 80th birthday. Her sons and daughter, Gerald, Gene, Galen, and Marlene Sattelfield, and families also attended church with her in the morning. There was a large crowd of neighbors, friends, and relatives that came to wish her well. Marcella said she really enjoyed the day and appreciated everyone who came out.
On Saturday, the following attended a church meeting at Versailles, Mo.: Ken and Sandy Wiebe, Harry and Sheryle Rhodes, Ransom and Lillian Wiebe, Merlin and Karletta Wiebe, and Bruce and Cheryl Dirks.
Sunday dinner guests of Jerald and Rhonda Koehn were Bruce and Cheryl Dirks and family, Larry and Wanda Koehn, Denise and Titus, Layne and Sarah Senne, and John and Martha Senne from Emporia.
Dora Unruh accompanied Doris Schmidt from Hesston and spent Saturday and Sunday at the WDC women's church retreat at Camp Mennoscah near Murdock. Lois Hosteteller from Illinois was a challenging and dynamic speaker for the weekend.
Richard and Kathy Dirks attended the state fair on Saturday.
Guests for Sunday dinner at the Clayton Wiebe home were the Nelson Wiebe family, the Calvin Wiebe family, the Travis Koehn family and Wayne and Loralee Wiebe.
Late Sunday afternoon, Palmer and Lucille Base went to visit Alice Base at Goessel. Alice celebrated her 80th birthday on Saturday. Sunday evening, Virgil and Faith Meyers visited at the Base home.
