Northwest of Durham: Residents concerned about weather

Everyone in the area is concerned because of the hot weather conditions and lack of rain. There is a lot of corn cut for silage already and the beans and milo are suffering tremendously. Also the pastures and water situation looks bleak.
Bruce and Cheryl Dirks hosted a basket dinner Sunday at the school so people could visit with Lavern and Lisa Litwiller and family who are in the States on furlough from the mission field in Russia. They will be returning in late August.
Calvin and Janene Wiebe invited Sheryl Rhodes, Bruce and Cheryl Dirks, and the Lavern Litwiller family to be their Sunday evening supper guests.
Larry and Wanda Koehn left July 21 for Lansing, Mich., for a Koehn family reunion at a camp and retreat area. Most of Larry's brothers and sisters and families were able to attend. There were about 80 in attendance. Larry and family returned home Thursday. Also attending from here were Travis and Sharon Koehn and family and Tim and Shelia Koehn and Jared.
Those invited to Sunday dinner at the home of Merlin and Karletta Wiebe were Harry and Lela Wedel, Duane and Louise Ratzlaff, Harlan and Sherry Koehn and Mark, Jeff and Monica Ratzlaff, and Dalton and Lorna Wiebe.
Dora Unruh went Saturday with her grandchildren for their annual summer breakfast at Main Street Café. All were present except Lisa Enns who is in Seattle, Wash.
Sunday evening guests at the Harry Wedel home for refreshments were Darrel and Donita Rhodes, Scott and Tami Koehn, and Ron and Jenellee Becker.
Moundridge Manor hosted an ice cream social for residents and their families Monday evening. Those attending from here Wendell and Linda Wedel, Roy and Nadine Davis, and some of the Helen Wiebe family.
A group of relatives got together Aug. 1 for a basket supper in honor of Bob and Betty Jantz of California. Bob is the brother of Dale Jantz.
