Northwest of Durham: Stormy weather brings needed rain

Sunday evening it was stormy in this area. There were high winds and some rain. Some trees blew over as well as good sized branches broke off. Seventy to 80 hundredths of an inch of much, much needed rain was very welcome.

LaVae, Rhonda, and Eileen Davis attended the wedding reception Friday evening for Ross and Myra Koehn at the Garden View Church near Halstead. They were married in Canada.

Harry and Verna Decker were honored for their birthdays which are July 30 and 28, respectively, on Sunday when their children and grandchildren had a get together and picnic at Carolyn Duggan's home near Lake Kanapolis.

Jessica Schroeder came to visit Marcella Unruh, her grandmother, Sunday evening until Monday evening. Jessica is presently a student majoring in accounting at Baker University in Baldwin. This summer she is working in the marketing and admissions department at the university.

Sarah Unruh was a guest of Nichole Carlson with other classmates at a birthday party and sleep over at a motel in Wichita Friday evening and Saturday.

The wedding of Lorna Koehn and Dalton Wiebe took place Sunday at the Morning Star Church. There were quite a few out-of-state guests coming for the wedding. On Saturday, they had a supper at the school for relatives and out-of-state visitors hosted by Richard and Charlotte Wiebe.

Arden and Judy Wiebe and family from Texhoma, Texas, came on Friday for the wedding and spent time with their parents, Ken and Sandy Wiebe.

The George Friesen family, Charlotte Wiebe's brother, from Grant, Neb., spent Saturday overnight in the home of Harry and Sheryle Rhodes.

Lavern and Lisa Littwiller and family of Murray, Ky., came Friday and Allen and Heather Martin from Shippensburg, Pa., came Saturday to spend until Thursday with their parents, Bruce and Cheryl Dirks.

On Monday evening, relatives and some friends that were still in the area from the wedding had a basket supper at the school.

Monday dinner guests of Clayton and Betty Wiebe were Richard and Charlotte Wiebe and family, Troy and Marla Wiebe and family, Orin and Rosalene Koehn and family from Plymouth, Idaho, and Joseph and Brenda Johnson and family from Alabama.

On July 23, Vernon and Carol Nightingale of Carnegie, Okla., visited Lola Redger on their way home from vacationing in South Dakota. They spent the afternoon and evening with Lola and additional supper guests were Ray Redger, Kyle and Tressa. Later, all went sightseeing and visited Ben and Lenora Goentzel. Ben and Vernon were co-workers in Newton for many years in the early 1970s.
