Northwest of Durham: Unruh families gather for birthday celebrations

The Unruh families got together for Sunday dinner at the home of Lon and Deb Hiebert. They honored summer and fall birthdays of Anita, Deb, David, Ashley, Darren, and Matthew. Those attending were Ron and Dora Unruh, Mark and Barb Unruh, Katelin and Sarah, Warren and Anita Unruh, Nathan, Kyle, and Jenna, Jim and Brenda Enns and Darren, David Enns, and Ashley Enns. Cake and ice cream were enjoyed later.
Rochelle (Steiner) Mahaffey and seven-month-old son, Melvin of California, formerly of this area, have been visiting her parents, the John Steiners of Galva and relatives here.
On Wednesday Rochelle, her parents, Wendell and Linda Wedel, and Travis and Connie Becker met at a Hesston restaurant for supper and to visit.
Getting together Thursday at Hillsboro park in honor of the California visitors were Rochelle and Melvin, Roy and Nadine Davis, Rhonda and Eileen, John and Ethel Steiner, Charlotte Wiebe, Gerald and Eva Davis, Larry and Wanda Koehn and Titus, Travis and Sharon Koehn and family, Dalton and Lorna Wiebe, Tim and Shelia Koehn and Jared, Troy and Marla Wiebe, Tim and Shelia Koehn and Jared, Troy and Marla Wiebe and family, Terry and Barb Hiebert and family, Stuart and Lea Isaac and family, and Tom and Sara Penner of Canada.
Ransom and Lillian Wiebe invited Mark and Kris Wiebe and family for Sunday dinner.
Jaraine Redger and John went Thursday to the fair at Hutchinson.
Lola Redger and Verla Redger went Monday to the state fair and reported nice weather and a lot of things to see which made for an enjoyable day.
Clayton and Betty Wiebe went to the Sunday morning wedding of Trisha Yost to Brett Nichols Montezuma at Meridian Church near Hesston.
Guests enjoying Sunday dinner at the home of Harry and Lela Wedel were Harlan and Sheri Koehn and Mark, Doug and Starla Koehn, Scott and Tami Koehn, Darrel and Donita Rhodes and Tyson, and Kris and Stephanie Becker, Reagan and baby girl Shalya Brooke who was born Sept. 7.
Ransom and Lillian Wiebe visited Alice Unruh several times this week. Alice was hospitalized several days this week.
Enjoying Sunday dinner at the Roy Davis home were teachers Harry and Sheryle Rhodes, Marcel and Wendy Unruh and Joel, and Mr. and Mrs. Elton Koehn of Galva.
Lola Redger and her family, Ray Redger, Kyle and Tressa of Newton, and Lisa Redger Wichita spent the weekend in Oklahoma. They went to the seventh annual family reunion of the late Edd and Katie Nightingale, which was held at Camp Shea retreat center at the foothills of Wichita Mountain near Lawton. There were 54 present which included Lola's brothers and sisters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. On Saturday evening, they took a moonlight hayrack ride. It was a very enjoyable time with good food, visiting, games, and other entertainment,
Dora Unruh attended the Monday morning memorial service for Bob Rogers at Glidden Ediger Funeral Home in McPherson.
Monday afternoon visitors in the home of Lola Ediger were Delilah Deckert, Jaraine Redger, and Verna Decker of Sidney, Mont. Verna is visiting friends and family in the area.
