Northwest of Durham: Wedding anniversary highlights trip to Oklahoma

Palmer and Lucille Base went June 4 to Enid, Okla., for the 50th wedding celebration of Wayne and Edith (Frantz) Unruh. They spent the night and went Monday to Tyron, Okla., where they had dinner at the home of Thad and Edna Thayer and family. The Thayer family has lived in this community. They had a good visit and the Thayers are doing well. Their family includes four boys. The youngest is 10 months old.
Merlin Wiebe family left Thursday for their son's wedding Sunday in Kidron, Ohio. Harry and Lela Wedel, Harry and Sheryl Rhodes, Ransom and Lillian Wiebe, the Jason Wiebe family, and a group of young people from the area also attended. The couple, Anthony and Beth Wiebe, will be living in the area.
Wendell and Linda Wedel went Sunday to eat dinner with Amanda Wedel at the Manor in Moundridge.
A correction from last week, Richard and Kathy Dirks did not attend the Isaac-Dirks reunion. They went to St. Charles, Mo., for a family cousins reunion from Kathy's side of the family. A lot of sharing, visiting, and sightseeing was done in the area. They went June 11 to eat out in McPherson and celebrate Shon Buster's birthday. Shon's family was there and all went to visit at the Buster home.
Bruce and Cheryl Dirks family made Sunday dinner and took it to the home of Melvin and Vera Dirks in Hillsboro. Ruston and Lydia Dirks also joined them for dinner.
The Dayton Unruh family got together Tuesday evening for pizza in the park to honor Larry and Wanda Koehn's uncle and aunt, Frank and Florine Koehn from Geiger, Ala.
Ken and Sandy Wiebe, Warren and Jane Unruh, Quinton and Dianne Unruh and family, Teresa Wiebe, and Carol Ann Unruh were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Terry and Barb Hiebert.
Ken and Sandy Wiebe, Larry and Wanda Koehn, and Roy and Nadine Davis attended the Sunday afternoon open house at Park Homes.
Roy and Nadine Davis and Rhonda, Rick, and LaVae Koehn attended the Sunday evening wedding reception at Burns church for Travis Koehn of Burns and Erica Schmidt of Montrose, Colo.. The couple recently married in Colorado. Erica taught school here at Cottonwood Grove.
Ratzlaff earns scholarship
Hillsboro High School graduate Emily Ratzlaff recently received the Joan Kirkham Scholarship for Women in Mathematics from the University of Kansas.
Ratzlaff, a sophomore majoring in aerospace engineering, received the award at the math department's annual spring banquet.
She is the daughter of Don and Gayla Ratzlaff, Hillsboro.
