Northwest of Durham: Yost descendants gather in Durham

The descendants of the Jake Yosts, who used to live on the Clayton Wiebe farm, had a family reunion this past weekend. The Harold Yost and Elmer Yost families hosted the weekend events. Out of a family of 11 children, there are six living family members. They are Conard and Harold Yost from Iroquois, S.D., Pearl Smith of Texas; Martin Yost of Galva; Junior Yost of McPherson and Ervy Yost of Woodward, Okla. Deceased are Della Yost, Elmer Yost, Bertha Schmidt, Ronald Yost, and Katie Koehn. On Friday evening, the family had a wiener roast at their former home, the Clayton Wiebe farm. On Saturday, there was a catered meal at the Cottonwood Grove School. Then on Sunday, the Morning Star congregation provided a dinner at the school for those that remained in the area. On Saturday, there was the biggest group attending with about 140 present. Many were able to stay in the homes of friends in the community, renewing acquaintances.

Congratulations to Troy and Sonya Schmidt on the arrival of their daughter. Ingrid was born on June 29. Grandparents Earl and Johanna Schmidt from Texas spent the weekend visiting in the Schmidt home.

On the fourth of July, Lola Redger, Verla Redger, and Lisa Redger were guests of Ray Redger, Kyle and Tressa for a barbecue in Newton. Later, they watched the fire works display.

Monday evening the Larry Koehns hosted a supper in their home to help Sara celebrate her birthday. Guests were Clayton and Betty Wiebe, Travis and Sharon Koehn and family, and Dalton Wiebe.

Guests for Friday and Saturday night at the Harry Wedel home were Eldon and Pearl Smith of Texline, Texas. On Sunday, Harold and Loretta Yost were luncheon guests and Conrad and Lois Yost were overnight guests. Monday, the Wedels and Conard Yosts met the Harvey Jantzes at a Galva restaurant for breakfast and visiting.

Weekend guests of Ken and Sandy Wiebe were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Shetler of Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Nichols and children and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Eikers of Texas.

Larry and Wanda Koehn and family, Mitch and Carol Unruh, Quinton and Dianne Unruh and family, Dayton and Martha Unruh and Carol were guests of Warren and Jane Unruh for a hamburger fry on July 4.

Marcela Unruh, together with Gerald and Debbie Unruh, Frances Shuler, Gene and Sue Unruh and family, had a picnic together in Marcella's pasture on July 4.

One evening last week, Palmer and Lucille Base for supper guests of Roger and Marla Campbell near Hillsboro. Other guests were Earl and June Campbell and Randy Campbell and son. On Sunday, the Bases attended church services at the Central Christian Church in Wichita with Merle and Pam Hartman. Later, they all enjoyed dinner together.

Weekend guests of Roy and Nadine Davis were Delton and Victoria Wiebe and three children from Iroquois, S.D.

Marcella Unruh spent one afternoon visiting in the home of Bob and Priscilla Unruh and their house guests Brent and Becky Unruh of New Jersey. Other visitors were the Shawn Springers and Josh and Molly from Wichita, and Gene Unruh and Ryan.

On Saturday, Barb Unruh and Katelin went to Emporia to watch Sarah compete at the Hershey's State Track Meet. The 400x100 relay team of Sarah, Candace Weinbrenner, Andrea Bartel and Dakota Kaufman took second place. Congratulations.

On Sunday evening, the Ron Unruh family got together at the Unruh home for a hamburger fry in honor of Anita Unruh's June birthday. Guests were Anita and Warren Unruh, Nathan and Kyle, Jim and Brenda Enns, Lisa and Darren, Mark and Barb Unruh, Katelin and Sarah, and Lon and Deb Hiebert and Matthew.

Friday and Saturday overnight guests in the Bruce Dirks' home were Ron and Loni Koehn of Murray, Ky.
