Organizers deem flower show a success

The Goessel Community Flower and Garden Show was held Aug. 2-4 at the Bethesda Home main activity area.

The judge this year was Judy Marks of Newton. Ribbons for champions in each division were awarded to the best entry. A purple ribbon was given to the best of show of the five winners.

Results were as follows: Div. I — children's entries: Makaila Schmidt, green peppers. Div. II — House plants: Lois Selzer, hibiscus. Div. III — Cut flowers: Dora Reimer, miniature rose. Div. IV — Arrangements: Frieda Flaming, a unique rooting and started sweet potato, plant arrangement. Div. V — Vegetables and fruits: Laura Schmidt, tomato.

A purple ribbon was for the best of show to Lois Selzer for her hibiscus plant.

The prize for the most first place entries was won by Jane Hiebert. She had 10 first place entries.

Even with the hot and dry season just before the garden show, the show had nearly 80 entries.

The committee, comprised of Marietta Voth, Joyce Watts, and Meldred Franzen, would like to thank everyone for their interest and help. The flower show is also a way of adding a little interest to some residents at Bethesda Home who cannot take part in many of the Threshing Days activities.
