Ornament exchange: Give a little and get a lot

Staff writer

Forget-Me-Not Flower Shop is going to offer an ornament exchange from the first of November through December. Customers are invited to bring in an old Christmas ornament and receive a new ornament at half price. The donated ornaments will decorate Christmas trees to be given to needy families.

Shop owner Jan Frantz came up with the idea as a way to help others at Christmas time.

"I've done things like this before through 4-H," said Frantz.

She and her family have helped decorate donated trees and decorate for the holidays at nursing homes.

"A lot of people get stagnate with their decorating," Frantz says.

The exchange will give them an opportunity to try something new and help someone else at the same time.

The shop will have new Christmas merchandise and other special promotions going on throughout the holiday season. There will be days with special treats, kids' gingerbread baking, personalized pet ornaments, and more.

Frantz is working with area pastors to locate needy families to receive the Christmas trees and is hoping to have a Christmas tree grower donate a tree as well.

"I'm hoping to do at least a couple of trees," said Frantz. "I love doing Christmas trees and anyway I learned a long time ago that it's not about getting rich, it's about having fun with what you do."
