Paper's co-owner wins national award

Eric Meyer, co-owner of Hoch Publishing Co., which publishes this newspaper, won first prize this month in a juried, nationwide competition among journalism professors for design of journalistic Web sites.

An associate professor of journalism at the University of Illinois, Meyer was honored for a Web site reporting the results of a four-year investigation into the identity of the Watergate source immortalized in the book and movie "All the President's Men." The investigation has been featured in news articles and on broadcast news programs worldwide.

The award was presented earlier this month at the annual convention in Kansas City of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the nation's largest group of journalism professors.

At the convention, Meyer also moderated a panel discussion on community journalism and presided over presentation of several scholarly research projects.

Aleen Ratzlaff, assistant professor of communications at Tabor College in Hillsboro, also participated in the convention, presiding over another group of research presentations.
