Parade will bring Santa to Burns
Burns will have a Christmas parade downtown at 7 p.m. Friday. Some of the entries, which will include floats, Cub Scouts, some dog sled teams, and even a jolly old elf in a red suit, will be lighted. A master of ceremony's station will be set up in the downtown area to announce the entries.
The parade will begin at the Co-op, go west on Main to Washington, then turn north on Washington and travel to Burns Community Center. The parade will make a brief stop at Prairie Arts so Santa can disembark and meet youngsters at the craft cooperative building.
Organizers are encouraging children to stop by and share "information" with Santa. Parents are invited to bring cameras and take advantage of a great photo opportunity.
Bess Templeton, former rural Burns resident, has a showing of her paintings on display at Prairie Arts for the holidays. Templeton said she always wanted to paint when she was a child and later she was able to take classes and workshops.
She enjoys exhibiting her work at shows where she has sold some of her paintings. Templeton is a retired teacher. She lives in El Dorado with her husband and sister.
Anyone visiting Burns for the parade Friday or any other time is invited to explore the community and its unique businesses and eating places.
A brochure is available with a self-guided tour of places displaying Burns Roosters. Visitors can take the tour and get a free key chain.
Or they can view the mural at the corner of Broadway and Washington and try to spot the mystery objects.
