Monday the Parkside residents enjoyed visiting with family and friends in town for the Memorial holiday.
The winners of the domino games played Tuesday afternoon were Jo Thye, Rosalie Suderman, Ben Ewert and Frank Peters. Cookies and coffee were served for refreshments. The Gospel Messengers brought the evening program.
A number of residents met before lunch Wednesday to review the local news. Pastor Roy Keller led the Bible class Wednesday afternoon. Vanilla ice cream was served after the class.
Thursday was a day for celebrating. A Memorial Day barbecue lunch was served at noon with all the residents eating together. We enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, Jell-O, fruit and chips. At 3 p.m. Older American's Month was celebrated with a big balloon lift. Each balloon had the name and address of a resident; we are hoping to hear from the lucky finders. In recognition of Older Americans' Month, a collection of drawings by Hildred Wiebe was presented to Parkside. Mrs. Wiebe who is 97 years young completed these drawings in the last two years. Parkside is pleased to have these drawings displayed in our front lobby. After the art presentation, everyone enjoyed cake and ice cream to celebrate all the birthdays in the month of May.
Bingo games called by Peggy Brandt were played by a room full of residents Friday afternoon. The winners of the blackout game were Erna Harms and Marie Wiens. Bananas were given to all the bingo particispants.
Parkside has had a full month with many activities. June promises to be full of more activities such as a time for sharing wedding memories and pictures, special men's coffee, a Durham cheese party and a chocolate delight afternoon. Watch for these upcoming events and join us for some good times.
