Pastors share Good News at Parkview

Pastor Stephen Humber, left, and Pastor Roy Keller began sharing ministerial duties in early July at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church. The two are replacing Pastor Tim Sullivan, whose last day as pastor at Parkview was July 14.

Keller, who moved to Hillsboro from Wichita six years ago, is a retired pastor and former Parkview visitation pastor who will take on interim duties at Parkview. Keller will be scheduled to be in the church office four mornings a week.

Keller and his wife Jean have three adult children, 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. They are the parents of Janice Claassen.

"I'll be scheduled in the office four mornings a week and when Stephen is out," Keller said.

Although he is officially the interim pastor, he won't put in as many hours as Sullivan did but will be on call as needed.

Humber, who moved to Hillsboro four years ago from Denver, will remain as the associate pastor. His duties won't change; however, he may be taking on some additional duties.

"I'll be preaching more," said Humber. "I'll preach one-half of the Sundays until the end of this year. Normally, I would have preached two times."

According to Humber, his preaching more and taking on more of the day-to-day work will be the biggest changes for the staff.

"I may have more to do for a while," he said. "We've tried to work out something where neither of us gets buried. We'll be fine but it will take some getting use to."

The congregation at Parkview seems content with the direction their church has taken and wanted to keep Humber's focus on his current job. They also wanted to figure out a way to get Keller's experience and heart for the Lord and people more prominent in the church.

"Roy has an easygoing, great personality. We'll miss the Sullivans, but the Lord has a plan for the church," Humber said. "We need to be in anticipation of that plan and a new pastor."

Parkview hopes to have a new pastor by the first of the year. In the meantime, Humber and Keller will share pastoral duties.
