Patience, patience
It's a huge, royal pain.
You know what I'm talking about: stepping gingerly over the brick. Doing the limbo underneath the yellow plastic tape. Hiking down a steep ridge of rock and ragged asphalt.
Then it's down into the rocky terrain of the actual street, avoiding the major holes and stones and piles of sand that send dirt into your shoes. Finally you reach the other side — and it's another big step up and around more yellow tape.
You're at your final destination — finally! — but you're exhausted.
Are you as tired of the downtown construction as I am?
It's a huge pain — walking over the construction. Circling the block so you can park where you want. Planning out an elaborate route.
There's no doubt it's a hassle.
But as we folks on the east side of Main and the south side of Grand can attest, take heart: There is an end in sight.
You will be able to drive on that road again.
You will be able to park in front of your favorite store again.
You will be able to walk across the street without mapping out a war plan first.
The time will come. One day, it will all be over.
And that day, you'll be glad. All the hard work will be worth it when you see the gorgeous lights and the smooth, smooth streets.
I can't help but think of a Bible verse, Galatians 6:7: "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
Sure it applies to our lives. To the good and bad deeds we've done.
But guess what: It applies to Main Street too!
The long-awaited day will come. Just hang in there.
