PBES students attend assembly
Peabody-Burns Elementary School kicked off the month of March with a first grade assembly on honesty and completing the campaign for Pennies for Patients.
Mrs. Thiessen's first graders presented the play, "The Girl Who Cried Wolf." Students heard the story of a little girl named Samantha, played by Samantha Frye, who thought it would be fun to lie to others. When all of her sheep are eaten by the wolf, played by Hunter York, Samantha discovers she may have made a mistake. Students were reminded why it is important to always tell the truth.
Totals were revealed for the Pennies for Patients campaign. All money raised will be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help patients and find a cure for leukemia.
The top money-earning class was Mrs. Wetta's third grade with a total of $183.71. They will receive a pizza party for their efforts. The total raised by the entire school was $879.46.
With the money earned the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society can provide patient aid to one child for an entire year and let researchers spend four more days working to find a cure.
