PBHS plays host to cross country meet

Peabody-Burns High School Warriors boys' cross country team took first and the girls finished sixth Thursday at the school's home meet.

Andrew Topham won the 5K division with a time of 18 minutes, 20 seconds. Jacob Wolf grabbed a seventh-place medal with a time of 20:17.

Duane Unruh was eighth with a time of 20:34. Robert Rossberg claimed a 13th-place medal, Ryan Wiebe finished 24th and Jesse Riggs took 38th.

In the boys' two-mile Jake Middleton claimed second place with a time 22:28. Kendall Wiebe earned a ninth-place medal with a time 23:13. Ethan Riggs also brought home a medal with an 18th-place finish.

Seth Methvin finished 23rd, Dane Lau 28th, and Joe Zappone 34th.

Alyssa Carter was the Warriors' top two-miler with a 15th-place finish in the girls' division. Ashley Elliot was next in 22nd place, Jennifer Schmeling placed 26th, and Jacqueline Benjamin was 30th.

Samantha Pickens (9th) and Erica Frederick (11) claimed medals in the girls' junior varsity race.

In the junior high standings, all Peabody-Burns Junior High runners received medals. Sheldon Wiebe led the seventh grade one-mile division with a first-place finish and a time of 6:28. Jordan Riggs was next in fourth.

Lauren Pickens won the seventh grade girls' one-mile division with a time of 6:38. Michaela Methvin was second, and Heather Brooks took fourth.

Aaron Topham led the eighth grade boys' two-mile division with a third-place finish. Isaac Burnett took 11th and Martin Hofkamp finished in 13th.

The Marion meet is Thursday.
