PBJH finishes fourth in HOA tournament

After advancing in the first round of play Feb. 2 in the Heart of America League tournament, Peabody-Burns Junior High boys' basketball team played Hutch Trinity Feb. 6 in the second round.

The Tomahawks were down early at the end of the first quarter, 9-8. Seth Alstrom and Jacob Simmonds each contributed two points, while Martin Hofkamp led the team with four points.

The PBJH defense held Trinity to a basket in the second period. Hofkamp, Alstrom, and Isaac Burnett each added two points to the Tomahawk total to give the team 14-11 halftime edge.

The third quarter was even for both squads with the score still favoring PBJH at the buzzer, 20-18. Brian O'Neal had four points and Hofkamp had two.

PBJH took a seven-point lead in the fourth. Aaron Topham had four points, Simmonds two, and Alstrom and Sean Jones each added a free throw.

Trinity came back within one of PBJH, and nailed a shot just seconds before the buzzer, defeating PBJH, 29-28.

Moundridge

PBJH lost another last-second contest in the third-place game.

The Tomahawks led 14-9 after one, with Simmonds scoring six points and Alstrom and Topham four each.

Moundridge scored six in the second and PBJH managed just one basket from O'Neal, but still led 16-15 at halftime.

The Tomahawk offense fired up in the third quarter with 13 points. Simmonds paced the team with seven points, Topham put in five, and Alstrom added a free throw.

In the fourth PBJH was held scoreless and Moundridge scored eight points to win the game, 30-29.
