Peabody-Burns school board approves all-day kindergarten

Following a PowerPoint presentation by Peabody-Burns Elementary School principal Ken Parry at the April 10 school board meeting, members tentatively approved instituting all-day kindergarten for the 2006-07 school year.

Parry's presentation covered the results of a survey of parents and school faculty.

The board entered an executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel issues related to changing kindergarten from half-day to all day. Upon return to open session, on a motion by Duke Eldridge the board approved the proposal with options on a 5-2 vote. Peggy Phillips opposed the change and Doe Ann Hague abstained.

The plan to begin all-day kindergarten next year is contingent upon curriculum and staffing. A decision is scheduled for final board approval at or before the regular May meeting.
