Peabody sign placement discussed by board
USD 398 board of education met Oct. 10 at Burns Community Center. The entire board was in attendance.
Joanna Brazil, Peabody Main Street Association coordinator, presented a proposal for a sign to be placed on the northwest corner of the lot that was home to the former high school building.
The city of Peabody is in possession of concrete letters from the front of the high school building that spell "PEABODY." Main Street Association would like to use the letters in a landscaped area on a corner of school property to welcome visitors to Peabody.
After Brazil's presentation and board discussion, members agreed to table the request until November pending more information on easements, project dimensions, and maintenance.
Board members also approved the transfer of school property to the city of Burns. They retained ownership of the former vocational agriculture/ lunchroom building and land to the north where the high school once stood.
They agreed to deed to the city an area around the original Burns school building which now houses Burns Historical Museum. Included in the transfer was playground equipment on the property.
