Pearl Lorenz

Pearl Lorenz, 91, died July 7, 2002, at Hillsboro.

Born Feb. 26, 1911, near Durham, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Katie (Kaiser) Lorenz.

She was baptized in April of 1914 by Rev. John Strohecker and was confirmed May 24, 1925, by Rev. Paul Szidat in the German Congregational Church west of Durham. In January of 1952, she joined the Trinity Lutheran Church in Durham. She moved to Hillsboro in January of 1959 and joined Zion Lutheran Church in 1966.

She received her elementary education in rural school district 94 west of Durham. She graduated from Durham High School in 1929, Emporia State University with a bachelor's of science degree in 1957, and Emporia State University with a master's of science degree in 1962. She also completed post graduate work in reading and learning disabilities.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Zion Altar Guild, Alumni Association of Emporia State University, Marion County Area Retired Teachers Association, National Retired Teachers Association, and a life member of Kansas NEA.

She taught in rural schools in Marion County, Lincolnville Grade School, Cooper Elementary School, and the Newton public school system.

Survivors include her care giver, Marvin Rediker of Durham; brother, Clarence Lorenz of Hillsboro; and sister Vernedda Klein of Durham.

Services were Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, with the Rev. John Ryding officiating.

Organist was Connee Willis. Casket bearers were Virgil Oblander, Jonas Frantz, Jeff Hand, Duane Kaiser, and Wayne Oblander.

Burial was in Durham Park Cemetery in rural Durham.

Memorial funds have been established with Zion Lutheran Church and Newton Hospice.
