Penner celebrates 90th years ago

The Scout House and Hillsboro Memorial Park were the setting on Sept. 7 for the 90th birthday celebration for Katherine Penner.

She was born Sept. 9, 1912, in Oklahoma, the youngest daughter of Peter Nickel and Elizabeth Froese Nickel.

All of her children, (who originally attended the Hillsboro schools) and children of her late husband Paul Penner were present, as well as seven of their 10 grandchildren and spouses, and eight of their 13 great-grandchildren.

The event was organized by Katherine's granddaughter, Katie Hiebert Pavlisin, Manchester, Mo., who also was the master of ceremonies. Katherine was presented with a family memory book. The day included lunch and an evening meal and entertainment.

Those present for the day, in addition to the honored guest, included Robert and Eddie Hiebert, Abilene; Paul and Marilynn Hiebert, Bridgeton, Mo.; Charles Hiebert, Alexandria, Virginia; Larry and Karen Penner, Newton; Mary Penner Beck, Sawyer, N.D.; Bob, Beverly, Rachael, and Alek Hiebert, Portland, Ore.; Craig, Bonnie, and Bryce Hiebert, Morrison, Colo.; Daniel and Justin Hiebert, Maryland Heights, Mo.; Brian, Katie, and Zachary Pavlisin, Manchester, Mo.; Murray Penner, Blaine Parrish, Chance, and Bailey, Gaithersburg, Md.; Justin, Diana, and Gabriel Reaume, LaMarque, Texas; and Suzann Beck Angstman, Crystal, Minn..

Those visiting in the afternoon included Mary Ann Woelk of Goessel; Linda Voth and husband Marvin, Phyllis Nickel, and Loretta Coleman and husband Bob, all of Newton; and Richard Nickel, Hillsboro, and his daughter and grandson Greta and Leam of Goshen, Ind.
