Rose Mary Saunders, grant coordinator, attended the Tampa city council meeting Monday evening, June 3, to assist the council with the procedures necessary to implement the demolition grant they recently received for the cleanup of the old high school building and other derelict properties.
Two requests for qualifications were received for administrator of the project and two for architecture. The council evaluated resumes, costs and other factors and ranked applicants.
The firms applying for administrator were Steve Robb and Reiss & Goodness. The council ranked Reiss & Goodness higher and decided to hire them.
Jones, Gilliam and William Morris submitted qualifications for architect, and the council ranked William Morris higher. Wilbert Backhus moved to hire Morris, and Tom Leihy seconded the motion, which carried.
Saunders told the council a resolution regarding a code of ethics and conduct and one regarding fair housing complaints would be required to meet the conditions of the grant.
After some discussion, Paul Backhus moved and Wilbert Backhus seconded to adopt the ethics resolution as number 2002-4. Leihy moved to pass the fair housing resolution. On a second from Wilbert Backhus, it was passed as number 2202-5.
Paul Backhus reported that the county would bring material for improving the access road to the elevator the following day, June 4. Agri-Producers Inc. will pay half the cost of $6.00 per ton.
Mayor Jim Clemmer reported that it will cost around $300 to bring in a large trash container for cleanup day. Paul Backhus moved to get one before the end of the month. Tom Leihy seconded the motion, which carried.
Paul Backhus moved to let Warren Fike use the city's roller for work at the Lewis Cemetery in Ramona. On a second from Reuben Kerbs, the motion carried.
The mayor informed the council that an insurance adjuster had examined the roof of the senior center and found no damage from the recent hail storm.
Paul Backhus told the other council members the city's tractor had been taken to the shop for repairs.
