What a weekend! I am not a sports enthusiast, but I am my son's enthusiast so I thoroughly enjoyed last weekend's winning of the regional wrestling championship. I can't remember ever being so excited in the nailbiting finish to the competition.

Hillsboro had never won a regional title. In fact, Eureka had won it every year since Carson has been in high school. I've hollered for all the team members and have had the boys in and out of my house for four years. So what a reward!

When Ronnie Davis pinned his opponent from Eureka to give us a one-point advantage, the Hillsboro crowd went nuts. I think we screamed at the top of our lungs for five minutes. I was just shaking and almost crying when it was all over. We were all hugging each other. We were so proud of our wrestlers and so proud of our coaches.

Unless you understand wrestling scoring, which, by the way, they do with a computer now, you can't appreciate how each member of the team contributed to the overall win. Even wrestlers who were beaten but not pinned contributed by depriving other teams from additional points.

Now we have eight wrestlers heading to state. I'm ready for these guys to thrill me at state. They have entertained me all season, and I'm sure I will not be disappointed.

We had double excitement at our house. Steve's brother, Dennis, has a son, Andy, who is a sophomore. He wrestles for Independence High School, a 4A school, and wrestled most of the season on junior varsity. When the 140-pound wrestler was injured, he stepped in and went to regionals with a 6-6 record. In one exciting match after another that culminated in the finals in double overtime, he took first place! Because all the regionals are scheduled at the same times, and Andy and Carson wrestle at 140 and 145 pounds, they would have been competing at almost the exact same times and both winning!

Steve's parents winter in Arizona, so they haven't seen the boys wrestle much. I don't know if they comprehended just how remarkable it is to have two regional champions in two classes which means that 50 percent of their grandsons were champions on the same day!

My voice certainly didn't weather the weekend well, but I should be full force by this Friday. I told my Sunday School class that they would have to join in discussion so I could make it through the lesson time!

We only have one more week of weight watching for Carson. That is forever according to him! I have my regimen for the week planned to get plenty of fruits and vegetables to help keep his immune system strong. For protein, we will use fish and chicken. We started on Sunday with an Italian fish soup that was loaded with tomatoes which have a chemical that is supposed to contribute to good health.

To find salads when most produce is off-season has been a challenge. One salad that is also Italian in origin can use frozen broccoli. It contains olive oil which is one of the healthier oils. I think of good health often, but this week it is really on my mind.

My Sunday School class just complete the 23rd Psalms. I am focusing on goodness and mercy following me. We discussed that dwelling in the house of the Lord forever mean the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that was with us constantly. That is good because I'm taking the Lord with me to Hays to state wrestling and am looking forward to goodness and mercy for my son and all his teammates!
