Phoenix arises from the ashes

The Phoenix, a mythical bird of Greek legend, was the sacred bird of Heliopolis, city of the Sun.

It symbolizes rebirth as it arises from the ashes like a new sun rises when the old sun has died.

According to Roman,Greek, Chinese, and Japanese legends the Phoenix is a symbol of immortality and resurrection.

From a pile of ashes a new Phoenix arises just as surely as a renewed Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church will arise from the pile of ashes at the corner of Grand and Washington.

The new Phoenix, like that of old improved by modern construction; and stronger, due to overcoming the hardship of a devastating inferno.

What appeared to be an impossible situation to some is merely a challenge to members of the congregation. Like their predecessors, they are composed of strong stock that's able to overcome adversity.

Overcoming this challenge will strengthen the church, congregation, and community.

The Phoenix lived in the city of the sun, the church on the corner of Grand and Washington is often referred to as being in "the land of milk and honey."

Like strong steel, which is tempered by hard blows, the Hillsboro Mennonite Church will grow even stronger as a result of overcoming that challenge.
