Pillars enjoy another evening with their support

Bethesda Home held its 16th annual Pillars Banquet on Saturday. Meals were served to 178 guests at the Cross Wind Conference Center. Twenty families were recognized as having participated in all 16 of the fundraising events. Bethesda has been using this event to help reduce the bonds that were issued in 1988.

The ticket price for the evening is $125, but Pete Flaming was quick to point out, "Some of our generous supporters contribute $500 per couple because they know the purpose. Many people who come to this event see the entertainment and meal as a bonus for their donation to a worthy cause."

The contributions for the evening were the largest of any of the 16 banquets, this year totaling $25,700.

Jan Schmidt, board chair, welcomed the group with thanks stating, "Your support is vital to Bethesda. This generous type of support has sustained Bethesda for 105 years."

Ron Willis, of Jewell delighted the audience with his home grown wisdom and humor. His description of his personal experience with raising and grinding horseradish brought laughter to the audience. He made the point, "Horseradish is hot, strong and tough. But it is nobody's fault. That is the nature of horseradish. . .There will be times in life that are hard. But it is nobody's fault. That is the nature of life."

The employees and supporters of Bethesda Home could identify with that point, knowing relatives and residents who have had rough times in their lives.

Chief Executive Officer of Bethesda Home, Linda Peters, gave a heartfelt thank-you to this special group of people as she dismissed them for the evening. The date for the next Pillars Banquet has been set for Nov. 5, 2005.
