Plenty of flu vaccine available
An ample supply of flu vaccine is available for Marion County residents who meet the federal and state criteria to receive a flu shot.
Marion County Public Health Administrator Deirdre Serene recently reported the county had vaccine available for residents.
Two groups of people have been added to the criteria to receive shots besides the original high-risk group.
The new criteria includes those 50 years old or older, or in contact with someone 50 years old or older, or in contact with someone who meets the high-risk criteria, now may receive a flu shot.
Flu shots are available Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Marion County Health Department, 230 E. Main, Marion. The cost is $15.
High-risk factors for flu shot recipients are those 65 years old and older, children from six months of age through 23 months, chronically ill, and those in contact with anyone determined to be in the high risk category.
