Police investigate theft from Arlene's Restaurant

On Nov. 21, Officer Chad Funk responded to a theft report at Arlene's Family Restaurant at 117 S. Main Street. The owner reported being short on the day's receipts. The investigation revealed that one of the restaurant's employees had allowed two juveniles to remove money from the cash register when paying their bill on two different times on the same day.

Charges are pending against a 14-year-old Hillsboro juvenile, a 14-year-old Newton juvenile, and a 15-year-old Canton juvenile.

On Nov. 24, Officer Chad Funk investigated a domestic battery report with an intent to do bodily harm report, an assault, a criminal threat, and criminal damage to property report at 313 S. Ash Street.

Holly Ward reported that the suspect was drunk and started yelling at her, hit her, and then choked her. She also reported that the suspect threatened to kill her and one of her children if she called the police.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Charges are pending against a 26-year-old Hillsboro man.

On Nov. 18, Officer Jessy Hiebert responded to a traffic accident in the 100 block of N. Main Street. Pete N. Knak of Hillsboro, driving a 1999 Buick, was southbound on North Main. Fernie F. Hiebert of Hillsboro, driving a 1997 Toyota, backed out from a parking space and struck the Knak vehicle. No injuries were reported.

On Nov. 17, Officer Hiebert responded to a motor vehicle accident on Ash Street. Katherine Baltzer of Lehigh, driving a 1991 Ford, was headed south on Ash Street off of D Street. Michael E. Mader of Hillsboro, driving a 1994 Honda, backed out from a parking space and struck the Baltzer vehicle. No injuries were reported.
