Police reports

Sometime between the evening of July 6 and the early morning hours of July 8, someone forced entry into several vending machines in Hillsboro. A total of 11 machines were entered including those at Vogt's IGA, Dale's Supermarket, the Cooperative Grain and Supply tire store, and Welsh's Coin Laundry. Loss and damage totals are not yet available but are estimated in excess of $2,000. These incidents may be related to similar incidents that occurred both locally and outside of Marion County.

On July 1, Officer David Funk investigated a reported criminal damage to property. A suspect(s) broke the spotlights, light bulbs, and a stage door at the outdoor pavilion at the Marion County Fairgrounds. Damages are estimated at $230.

On July 5, Officer Chad Funk stopped Derek B. Lofton from Lehigh for speeding and for a headlight not working. The officer detected the odor of alcohol coming from the suspect. The suspect admitted to drinking alcohol and took a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was arrested for DUI and transported to Marion County Jail.

Officer Chad Funk investigated an alleged forgery on June 12. the victim, Gary Suderman of rural Hillsboro, reported that the suspect stole two business expense checks that were addressed to him, forged his signature, and deposited them into the suspect's savings account at Emprise Bank. The total loss was $2,848.

On June 23, Officer David Funk investigated an accident on Lincoln Street. Marilyn E. Reimer, driving a 1990 Dodge Caravan, was backing out of a driveway when her vehicle struck a car parked across the street. A 2002 Chevy Malibu owned by Avis Rent-a-Car of Denver was damaged in the accident. There were no injuries reported.

On June 24, David Funk investigated an accident on Main Street. Deloise A. Wiens of Hutchinson, driving a 1995 Ford Windstar van, was northbound on Main. Drew Cederberg of Hillsboro, driving a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup, was backing out of a driveway when his vehicle hit the Wiens vehicle. Verna Funk of Hillsboro was a passenger in the Wiens vehicle. Derek Conrad of Hillsboro was a passenger in the Cederberg vehicle. No injuries were reported.
