Promotions committee announces plans

The business promotion committee of Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce met Thursday morning to plan upcoming activities and incentives for downtown Hillsboro.
The committee decided the chamber of commerce will give away gift certificates for local merchants at the sub-state basketball tournament March 5-6.
St. Patrick's Day will be celebrated by the "Wearing of the Green." Customers wearing green that day will be rewarded at participating merchants.
Nancy's Fashions will have an anniversary sale April 1-3 to celebrate 16 years of business.
An egg coloring contest will be held to celebrate Easter. Egg pictures to be colored will be available at the elementary school and at area merchants. All entries must be turned in by April 2 and will be displayed in downtown businesses.
Hillsboro city-wide garage sale will be April 25. The sales will be followed by spring clean-up week, April 26-30.
Memorial Day weekend will be celebrated with a parade and street dance downtown featuring a live country and western band. The dance will begin at 9 p.m. and last until midnight. Some restaurants and stores will stay open late. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. May 29. The city also will celebrate its 120th birthday that weekend.
The chamber plans to sponsor a Farmers' Market in Hillsboro during the months of May and June. Other details will be announced later.
Marion County Fair will be Aug. 4-7. There are plans for a sidewalk sale downtown as well as free hot dogs. The fair board also plans to offer a day when fairgoers wearing admission wristbands can ride all the rides they want.
