Radio shows to address issues for the elderly

McPherson County Council on Aging is networking with several area nursing homes this fall to present a series of radio shows on KNGL/KBBE. These programs will be aired at 8:30 a.m. Monday mornings beginning Oct. 4 and will continue through December.

These shows are geared toward providing information and a discussion of issues that might be of interest to people who are challenged with caregiving for elderly family members or other loved ones.

Caregivers or any other interested people who might have questions on any of the subjects presented are invited to call in and the guest host will assist with the question. The shows are funded through a Title IIIE, Older American's Act grant, provided through South Center Kansas Area on Aging and Kansas Department on Aging.

The dates and topics are the following: Hospice services and availabilities, Oct. 4; Culture change in long term nursing home care, Oct. 11; Balance and falling concerns of the elderly, Oct. 18; Long term care insurance, Oct. 25; Prescription, over the counter and herbal drug issues, Nov. 1; Spirituality and the elderly, Nov. 8; Consumer fraud issues, Nov. 15; Services and issues affecting Kansas Elders with Kansas Secretary on Aging, Pamela Johnson-Betts, Nov. 22; Alzheimers and other dementia, Nov. 29; Estate planing, Dec. 6; Hearing loss issues, Dec. 13; Diabetes among elders, Dec. 20; and Utility and tax assistance programs available to seniors, Dec. 27.
