Raising the temperature

The bank temperature sign read four degrees Tuesday morning in the city of Hills-burr-o. But it wasn't the only thermometer reading that needs to move up more quickly in this town.

The fund-raising "thermometer" of the Hillsboro Impact Fund, located on the corner of Main Street and Grand Avenue, is not only measuring the amount of funds, it also is measuring the compassionate heart of our town.

We can't control the weather, but we can control whether or not the gauge measuring the Hillsboro Foundation's fund-raising drive continues to rise.

Stoke the fire of compassion like making a commitment to a cause greater than yourself. Fund-raising professionals call the part when they ask you to open your checkbook, or sign a pledge card, The Ask.

Consider yourselves Asked. If you have a pledge card stashed among the things you planned to get to when you got the time, well, now is the time. If you don't have a pledge card, make a mental note to fill out the next one that comes in as an insert in this paper in the coming weeks.

Mike Kleiber would like to see the fund thermometer reach its peak before the end of April, and we think that would be swell. Just think, by that time, the numbers on the bank sign will make us all feel better as well.
