Ratzlaff medals at state tennis
Four Hillsboro tennis players traveled to Wichita on Friday to compete in the 3-2-1A state tennis competition, held at Wichita Collegiate School.
Junior Brandon Ratzlaff placed the highest for the Trojan squad. He took seventh place, earning a medal for his efforts.
Ratzlaff was the No. 1 singles player for Hillsboro going into the tournament. He defeated Hoisington's Denk Detter 6-1, 6-2 in the first round, then lost to Collegiate's Kevin Sullivan 6-1, 6-1.
In his next game against Ness City's Keith Pfannenstiel, Ratzlaff won 9-3 to advance to the seventh-place match. He defeated Wichita Trinity's Alex Ingle in that match 9-5.
Hillsboro's Tyler Weinbrenner was the No. 2 singles player for the team. He failed to advance beyond the opening round, losing to Lance Henne of Quivira Heights.
The doubles team of Adam Driggers and Jesse Janzen also fell in the opening round, losing a match to Waite and Reade of Ellinwood.
