Raymond Peters
Raymond Peters, 89, of Hutchinson died March 11, 2005, at Hutchinson Hospital.
Born April 18, 1915, in Reedley, Calif., he was the son of Jacob and Minnie (Golbek) Peters. He attended Walldeck School in Marion County and Lehigh High School, Lehigh. He was a longtime resident of Cassville, Mo., moving to Hutchinson in 1998.
On June 29, 1947, he married Violet C. Trotter in Hutchinson. She died Sept. 15, 1980. On Jan. 12, 1982, he married Gladys Stimson in Miami, Okla. She died Jan. 26, 1998.
He was a retired major in the U.S. Army, serving in WWII and Korea, and retired postmaster in Lehigh. He also worked for the Carey family. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Union Valley Bible Church.
He was preceded in death by his wives; brothers, Jack and Arthur; and sisters, Olga Seidel, Bertha Kliewer, and Lucille Austin.
Survivors include sons, Father Aaron Peters of St. Benedict's Abbey, Atchinson, and Gary Peters and wife Marilyn of Plainview; daughters, Connie Rupp and husband Clay of Springfield, Mo., and Barbara and husband Gary Friesen of Hutchinson; sister, Esther Unruh of Goessel; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Union Valley Bible Church officiated by Pastor Steve Hodgson. A military graveside service with honors by Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., was held Tuesday. Burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cassville, Mo., with Wayne Deffenbaugh officiating.
