Reader urges Goessel residents to attend town council meeting

To the Editor:

This is another update to the citizens of Goessel about what your town council is doing to put you into debt and raise your property taxes. Another resolution, No. 06-03, was signed by Mayor Peggy Jay on Dec. 18, 2006. Yet it was withheld from the people till Jan. 25.

This latest resolution authorizes borrowing $390,000 principal.

In my previous article of Oct. 18, 2006, in the Star-Journal, I informed the people of the financial agreements of Res. No. 06-01.

In that resolution 06-01, the city agrees to pay $170,199 as its portion of the water and sewer improvements. People, the question beggars to be asked, why then is our council borrowing $390,000?

I warned in my previous article that the city is getting ready to issue bonds. To not be fooled by terminology, this is a debt, borrowed money, and all the taxpaying property in Goessel becomes collateral.

Read here the words from Resolution No. 06-03, Sec. 401 and Sec. 402.

"The notes shall be general obligations of the Issuer (City of Goessel) payable as to both principal and interest in part from special assessments levied upon the property . . . and, if not so paid, from ad valorem taxes which may be levied without limitation as to rate or amount upon all the taxable tangible property, real and personal, within the territorial limits of the Issuer.

"The governing body of the Issuer (City of Goessel) shall annually make provision for the payment of principal of, premium, if any, and interest on the notes as the same become due, if necessary, by levying and collecting the necessary taxes upon all the taxable tangible property within the Issuer in the manner provided by law."

People of Goessel, again I say to you: What you read here is not my opinion. I am the messenger of truth by documentation. Go to the Goessel city hall, get Resolutions No. 06-01 and 06-03. Read it for yourself.

The next town council meeting is at 8 p.m. Feb. 19.

"Law abiding people, left to themselves, will fix their own problems. Government, left to itself, creates the problems."

Wake up people!
