Kroeker to play
in all-star game
Forty-eight top high school basketball players from across the state have been selected to compete in the 2002 Kansas Basketball Coaches Association High School All Stars game on Aug. 14 at Lee Arena, Washburn University, Topeka. Shannon Kroeker, guard/forward, will play on one of the women's teams.
This event is designed to showcase the talent of the 24 female and 24 male players, many who will continue the sport at the college level.

Tabor to host
soccer camp
Hillsboro Recreation Commission and Tabor women's soccer will host a soccer camp for anyone in grades 1 through 6. The camp will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 21, 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 22 and Aug. 23, and 8 to 10:30 a.m. for grades 1 through 3 and 11 to 1:30 a.m. for grades four through six on Aug. 24.
The registration fee is $30 and due by 5 p.m. Aug. 14. Forms are available at city hall.

CVL All-Stars
place fifth at state
The Cottonwood Valley League (12-year-old) All-Stars traveled to Scott City Friday to participate in the state tournament. They earned the opportunity by winning the district tournament held in Marion.
The team took fifth place. Those participating from Marion were Calvin Jeffrey, Chase Carlson, Logan Richmond, Justin Heidebrecht, Zan Fine, and Brett Billings. Others were Brian Palermo, Eli Fowler, and Cole Starky, all of Cottonwood Falls, and Gavin Serene and Travis Riesen, both of Hillsboro.
Brandt wins
pedal tractor pull
Zachary Brandt won the pedal tractor pull for five year olds at the McPherson County Fair at Canton. This qualifies him for the Kansas State Fair in September.
Zachary is the son of Julie Brandt and the grandson of Ray and Grace Brandt.
