Renovated building new home for bank

After years in their South Main Street abode, Hillsboro's Central National Bank has found its new home.

Monday marked the first full day of business in Central National's new Hillsboro office, located at 206 North Main. The bank now has its own building, which has been completely renovated since its days as a town fitness center.

And branch president Mike Padgett is enjoying his new digs.

"It turned out exceptionally well," Padgett said.

The new building has two and a half times the office space that the previous bank building had, Padgett said. It comes complete with new furniture and teller stations.

Last week's move went fairly smoothly, Padgett said. Only computers and paperwork made the transition from the old office — everything else is new.

That includes the new drive-thru feature, which has many part-time workers putting in extra hours. The drive-thru is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday — hours a bit longer than the previous location.

The inside of the bank will continue to stay open with its old hours.

The building used to house "The Body Shop," and no vestiges of that company remain. CNB completely gutted the inside, leaving only the roof and exterior walls. Both inside and outside surfaces are brand-new, Padgett said.

Work on the building began in November of 2001, with Jantz Construction of Tampa doing the work.
