Rev. Robert Walter

The Rev. Robert W. (Bob) Walter, 79, died Dec. 31, 2003, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

Born. Aug. 16, 1924, at Downs, he was the son of Elmer P. and Anna (Wiersma) Walter.

On Dec. 24, 1961, he married Mary Ann Bevan at Salina.

He was a pastor of United Methodist churches for many years and a member of the Kansas West Conference of the United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margery Seaman Walter, who died in 1960, and a brother, Glen Walter.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Hillsboro; a son, Russell Walter of Burrton; three daughters, Elaine Killion of Sedalia, Mo., Janet Matteson of McPherson, and Peni Funk of Hillsboro; a brother, Donald Walter of Downs; two sisters, Florence Walter of Downs and Beth Elliott of Wichita; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Trinity Mennonite Church, Hillsboro, with the Revs. James Gundy and Mike McGovney officiating.

Burial was in Haven of Rest Cemetery, rural Hillsboro.

A memorial fund has been established with Forest Park Conference and Retreat Center of Topeka.
