Richard Knapp

Richard Ariel Knapp, 77, of Marion died Oct. 2, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita.

Born Sept. 7, 1925, at Guthrie Center, Iowa, he was the son of Ariel and Eva (Scott) Knapp. He was raised in rural Iowa and graduated from Redding High School.

On June 24, 1985, he married Gladys Carr in Hays. They lived in Marion.

He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, visiting his children and woodworking. He was a member of Valley United Methodist Church in Marion.

Survivors include his wife of Marion; sons, Richard Knapp of Monte Vista, Colo., Charles Knapp of Chandler, Ariz., Mark Knapp of San Francisco, Calif., Benjamin Knapp of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; daughters, Cheryl South of Boston, Mass., and Margaret Shields of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; brother, Gifford Knapp of DeSoto; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 5, 2002, at Valley United Methodist Church with Pastor Kennedy Mukwindidza. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with Valley United Methodist Church and the American Heart Association.
